This was a test of a new sculpting program called Sculptris. It’s a FREE program that was just picked up by Pixologic. I hope they plan on developing it further. This is easily my favorite 3D program. Click for a larger image.
Most sculpting programs work by moving geometry. Sculptris works by creating geometry on the fly. You can create as much detail as your computer can handle. This wireframe image is the mesh density after I reduced it in 3Ds Max twice. There are poly reduction tools in Sculptris but I was having too much fun to worry about them then. Sculptris has no renderer so I brought this into Max and rendered it with Mental Ray.
